Frequently Asked Questions

What clients do you see in therapy?

My primary practice is working with children who have behavior problems, grief issues, or developmental issues. In my practice, I typically see the parents of the child first, put structure in place, teach parenting skills and then I work with the identified client. I also see adult clients with any issue—Axis I or II Disorders, grief, pain disorder, relationship problems and issues of divorce.

  • Masters in Counseling, Trevecca Nazarene University, 2002

  • Eight years working in the school system seeing 150 children per week
  • A lifetime working with children in church/school setting

Do you only see clients with a diagnosis?

I see children and adults with or without a diagnosis. Many of the children that I see have minor behavior problems or developmental issues. Many Adults that I see have minor work or personal/relationship difficulties.

Why is it important for a therapist to see a client face to face rather than by phone?

So much of what you say is in your body language:

  • 7 % is words you speak
  • 38% is your tone of voice
  • 55% is your body language

A therapist can pick up on an issue when the client is not consciously aware of the issue.

Why is a license important?

A therapist must be licensed in Tennessee to practice. And to be licensed, one must meet many criteria such as hours of training at a qualified school, internships, face-to-face contact with clients while being supervised and continued education hours after completing licensure. A licensed therapist provides assurance that you will receive the most accurate and up to date therapy.

Do you file insurance?

All clients are self-pay. And payment is due at the time of service by cash or check. However, I do provide a “short” insurance form as documentation that the client can submit to their insurance and be reimbursed. All insurances reimburse at different rates. Each client should contact their insurance agent and determine their rate of reimbursement.

How much will it cost?

I charge $105.00 per 50 minute session if there is one client. I charge $120.00 for two or more clients in a 50 minute session. Your health insurance may provide reimbursement for professional psychological services. I encourage you to consult your policy.

I request 24 hour notice if a cancellation of an appointment must be made. And the cancellation must be made by phone (615.598-8315)—not Internet. If 24 hour notice is not given, the client is responsible for the fee.

Other services, such as court appearances, in-patient visits, or significant telephone counseling, etc. are billed at a rate of $150.00/hour in addition to transportation expenses.
